TFS coaches name Indians of the Month for October
Tallulah Falls School coaches have selected their Indian athletes of the month for October.
MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRL
Sixth-grader Haygen James of Demorest was named a TFS Indian of the Month by cross country coach Scott Neal. “Haygen hit the ground running in cross country this season – always practicing and competing with purpose while displaying GREAT character,” Neal said. “She defeated two opponents at the Tri-State championship that had run faster than her in the previous four encounters, placing third. She followed that personal record (PR) race two days later with another best time at the Mountain Invite, placing in the top 28% of the 327 harriers. She finished the season with the team’s best 3K time.”
MIDDLE SCHOOL BOY
Eighth-grader Colton Hicks of Clarkesville was selected as an Indian of the Month by cross country coach Scott Neal. “Colton won the Tri-State middle school cross country championship and placed 35th of 384 harriers at the Mountain Invite,” Neal said. “He then placed 45th of 151 runners in the small school division at the Georgia middle school cross country championships. His two-mile time of 13:51.29 on the difficult Bleckley County Elementary course was the 204th best time of 927 middle school boys. Colton has been a team leader and GREAT role model all season.”
VARSITY GIRL
Senior Jade Mitchell of Cornelia was named an Indian of the Month by volleyball coach Matt Heyl. “Jade was our clutch player for October,” Heyl said. “We finished higher than ever at our region tournament and won our first state tournament match. Jade was an integral part of all of this. She played fearlessly and sacrificed all she had in each match. These were her best hitting matches of the year and she sacrificed her body many times trying to save a ball for her team. What a great way for her to end her playing career here at TFS.”
VARSITY BOY
Senior Caleb Griffis of Martin was selected as an Indian of the Month by cross country coach Scott Neal. “Caleb finished his seven-year TFS cross country career at the Area 2-A Private cross country championships by running 2:05 minutes faster than the previous first meet of the season and 1:22 faster on the same Wesleyan course from last year,” Neal said. “Caleb was a GREAT team leader throughout the season and was respected by his peers. He was the co-leader of the annual team camping trip and a consistent example of work ethic in training. Caleb competed to the best of his ability throughout his career and finished in fine fashion by passing other runners at the very end with a gutsy and determined race.”
