Season Preview: MS Baseball
The MS Indians improved as last season went on, and finished 4-4-1 against a tough schedule. This year, Kyle Dampier, the JV head coach and varsity assistant, will head up the middle school team as well.
With four starters off last year’s team now at the high school level, including much of the pitching, the 2024 Indians will be young in several spots. However, a trio of 8th-grade starters will look to anchor the team in Brantley Addison, Garrett Dorsey, and Asa Popham. Dorsey comes back after leading the team in average (.500) and RBI (11). Popham hit .360 last year with 2 HR and 10 RBI, and was a regular starting pitcher as well. Addison hit .333 with 4 RBI as well.
Notable returning talents include 7th-graders Woods Irvin and Fenn NeSmith, who both showed lots of promise last season, with Irvin regularly throwing strikes on the mound, and NeSmith playing well in the outfield.
The roster includes 8th-graders Addison, Dorsey, Popham, Ethan Phasavang, and Phillip Restino. Irvin and NeSmith are the lone 7th-graders. The remaining five roster players are first-year middle school students.
TFS will open the season against Elbert County in a double header on February 16 on the home field.
