JV edges West Oak in pair of Saturday games
The JV Indians earned a pair of close wins over West Oak (SC) on Saturday at home, remaining undefeated.
GAME 1
The Indians won 5-4 in the first contest, walking it off in the bottom of the fifth. A 3-run first inning for TFS was the result of a West Oak error on a fly ball hit by Drew Barron. All three runners on base scored.
West Oak scored one in the second and two in the fourth to tie the game. In the top of the fifth, the visitors pulled ahead 4-3. The Indians rallied in the home half. It started with a 1-out single by William NeSmith. Brantley Allen singled to left, and Merrick Carnes followed it with a game-tying hit. Jordan Miller then singled up the middle to score Allen for the winning run.
TFS had five hits by five different players, and the pitching held West Oak to a single hit. Wyatt Dorsey started and went 3.1 innings while giving up three runs (one earned) on one hit and eight walks while striking out five. Robert Grant got the win in relief, going 1.2 innings with one run on no hits, three walks, and a strikeout.
GAME 2
West Oak got a quick start with a pair of runs in the first. Dorsey had a sac fly in the home half, and Barron scored on a passed ball to tie the game up at 2-2. The visitors got a run in the third, but so did TFS when Miller's grounder was booted, scoring Asa Popham.
In the bottom of the fourth, Smith scored on an error for the go-ahead run, and Jackson Savage's bunt single plated Grant, who went 2-for-2 with a run. Grant went 2.2 innings on the mound as well, giving up three earned runs on a hit and five walks against three strikeouts. Griffin Harkness earned the win by going 2.1 innings in relief, walking just one batter and fanning two.
The Indians are now 7-0 on the season.
