The TFS varsity basketball squads took on Towns County in Hiawassee on Thursday evening. The Lady Indians won 48-44, while the Indians fell 88-71.

The Lady Indians grabbed their second straight win in a 48-44 defeat of Towns County. The game was knotted at 8 apiece heading into the second, when TFS edged Towns 10-8 in the quarter to take a 2-point lead into the break. The third quarter saw Tallulah Falls pull away, as they outscored Towns 15-9 to take an 8-point lead into the final stanza.

In the fourth, TFS survived a flurry of buckets, including three 3-pointers by Towns County. Veronaye Charlton led the way with 15 points, Deinka Lightbourne had 11, Iray Adeleke had 10 and Katy Corbett 8. Adeleke and Charlton combined for 10 points in the third quarter.

"As expected, Brian [Hunnicut] did an great job preparing for our game," says coach Brandy Corbett. "His girls did an excellent job of controlling the tempo and slowing down the game. As opponents can always expect, dating back to even when I was a player in that gym, Towns shoots the ball insanely well in their home gym. They hit nine threes in the game. I was very proud of our ability to make small runs when opportunities were available, maintain our composure when they pulled it close, and finish the game strong."

TFS is now 4-2 overall on the season and play again on Saturday at Hebron Christian against Woodland-Stockbridge in the Winter Classic Tournament.

The Indians' night in Hiawasse ended in an 88-71 loss at the hands of the host team. TFS held strong through the first quarter, going into the second tied at 21 in a high-scoring game. Towns County pulled away, outscoring Tallulah Falls 24-12 in the second.

Gabe Keene led the way with 16 points, while Anfernee Hanna had 15 in the tough loss.

"Towns shot the ball really well," says coach Cody Coleman. "But we did a lot of great things. Our team fought to the final buzzer and although it wasn't the result we were looking for, I am extremely proud of our effort."

TFS is now 2-2 on the young season, and play also on Saturday, but at home against Wesleyan.
