Higgins fires 2-hitter as Indians win 6-1 at East Jackson

The TFS Indians earned a 6-1 Wednesday road win at East Jackson, making it two-for-two in the non-region matchup in 2021. Aubrey Higgins hurled a complete game, 2-hitter and was backed by some timely hitting by the offense, which also took advantage of East Jackson miscues.

Higgins pitched a fine game in collecting his second win of the season, as he had a no-hitter going into the fourth before it was broken up. Meanwhile, the Indians put up a 2-run second inning to go ahead early. Aiden Gragg had an RBI groundout that plated Cainan Yaskiewicz, who had singled in the inning. Frankey Moree then stole third and scored on a bad throw.

Higgins, who had struck out the side in the first, continued to roll when TFS came back to bat in the fourth. Chathan Clouatre scored a run on a double play flyout to stretch the lead to 3-0. Higgins' no-hit bid ended with one out in the fourth on a single to center, which came across to score on an error and bridge the gap to 3-1.

After Joel Miller led off the TFS sixth with a hit by pitch, Trent Thomas drove him in with a base hit. Thomas then scored on an error, while Clouatre was credited with a steal of home to cap the scoring at 6-1. Higgins finished the game with a perfect seventh inning.

Higgins went 7 innings, allowed no earned runs against two hits and no walks while striking out a career-high 11 batters. The Indians picked up only four hits, but took full advantage of five East Jackson errors. Yaskiewicz had two hits and a run, while Clouatre had a hit and two runs and Thomas finished with a hit, RBI and run scored.

TFS moves to 5-2 overall on the season, and will play again on Thursday at home against Elbert County.
