Cute Creations by Yaskiewicz Sisters
Art classes at Tallulah Falls School taught rising seniors Ashlyn and Skylyn Yaskiewicz to think outside the box and to keep a creative mindset. Art teacher Stephanie Stuefer encourages students to let art happen, to choose what they want to do and to try it. For the Yaskiewicz twins, this helped them to see that the sky's the limit. “If I don’t know how to do it, I will find a way to do it,” said Ashlyn. “Whatever I put my mind to, I can do it.” Both sisters have a “just do it” mentality. Even if it takes a long time, they stick to their projects until they are completed.
The Yaskiewicz sisters have spent their time in art classes constantly finding new mediums. They’ve done paintings, pottery, string art, crochet, and more. Over the last two years, they have both received awards for their profound pieces of art. As their projects grabbed the attention of students, teachers, and friends, people wanted to buy their art. When requests for their art mounted, the sisters decided to make it a summer business – Y2.
They are selling adorable crocheted stuffed animals and other artwork. “I have six pottery orders,” said Skylyn. “I have an order to paint a doberman for a lady,” chimed in Ashlyn.
Currently, they have plenty of crocheted creature orders to fill. They sell anything from a dainty hippo to an adorable dino, and even little gnomes. They find their patterns online for nearly any animal or creature and spend one to three hours, depending on the size, turning yarn into a cuddly friend.
Recently they launched a Facebook page – Y2 Crafting: The Yaz Twins. “People can request about anything and we can make it,” they said. They plan to find more outlets for selling their crafts, so they have spent some time over the summer scouting craft fairs in the hopes of setting up a booth in the near future.
