Indians of the Month: September 2023
TFS has named the Indians of the Month for the month of September 2023. This month's selections are Charlotte Stafford and Teagan Penland for high school, and Stella Rose Bowman and Sebastian York for middle school. MORE INDIANS OF THE MONTH
Charlotte Stafford - Softball
Sophomore center fielder Charlotte Stafford finished the season third in hits, second in doubles, RBIs, and runs scored, first in walks, and led the team with a .628 OBP. Her defense was lights out, only having three errors this season. Charlotte was a contributor on both sides of the ball. She came up with some really big hits for us in games and stopped other teams during rallies. -coach Jo Kimbrel
Teagan Penland - Cross Country
Freshman Teagan Penland has progressed well during the cross country season, even finishing as the TFS #1 runner recently at the large Mountain Invitational at Unicoi State Park in Helen, running within four seconds of his 5k personal record. Teagan stays focused, positive, and tenacious. Competing is strategic as well as natural, and is a motivator for him. Camaraderie with teammates is important to him, as is doing the little things like ice baths to help him be his best. A three-sport athlete, Teagan doesn't simply want to be on the team; he disciplines himself so he and his teammates can thrive in all of the activities, events, practices, and competitions we undertake. He is adding significantly to a solid foundation of harriers. -coach Scott Neal
Stella Rose Bowman - Volleyball
This was Stella's first year playing volleyball. Stella's effort to become a better player was outstanding. She was very coachable and anything she was told she needed to improve, she would work on until she got it. She was encouraging to her teammates whether during practice or at a game. Stella Rose was a huge support to the team, even when the B team wasn't playing, by showing up at the end of season tournament. She helped with line ups and volunteered to keep score or be a line judge. Stella also has great integrity. She is always willing to do the right thing, even if it's not the popular belief. Congrats Stella! You are an amazing young lady! -coach Natasha McEntire
Sebastian York - Cross Country
Seventh-grader Sebastian York went from the TFS #6 runner at the beginning of the season to the present #3 team harrier. Whether the progressive summer running or Get FAST camp or the renewed vidor in which he runs in practice, Sebastian has made an incredible turn from being on the team and running to being a competitor who performances help the team score better. Also a GREAT teammate who continually encourages others, stays positive in all environments, and is now seeing better how running consistently is the main foundation of cross country, Sebastian's significance is character. He now pursues excellence while helping others to experience an incredible moment with the team. -coach Scott Neal
