Indians of the Week: October 3-8

TFS has named the Indians of the Week for the week of October 3-8. This week's selections are Chesney Tanksley and Alvaro Garcia Breton for high school, and Lily Denard and Maddox English for middle school. MORE INDIANS OF THE WEEK

Chesney Tanksley - Volleyball

Chesney Tanksley has been improving her game all season. This week during the Area Tournament, she led our offense with intelligence and got it to the right person at the right time with the right set. Not only did she improve this week on the setting end but in the Championship match on Saturday, her serve was a weapon. She served very aggressively with some aces and almost always gave Prince a tough time to run any offense against her serve. The combination of her serve and accurate setting led TFS to the second Area Championship in a row. -coach Matt Heyl

Alvaro Garcia Breton - Cross Country

Junior Alvaro Garcia Breton is in his initial cross country season. An avid futbol player and previous sprinter, Alvaro has been an exceptional teammate the whole season. Positive, persistent, and poised, he always seeks solutions to adversities and never takes the easy way out. His words are chosen to add value, his actions deliberate yet at times spontaneous, and his significance to the team is inspiring. Alvaro has been the TFS #5 runner all season and has improved significantly during the season, a testament to his dedication and discipline. -coach Scott Neal

Lily Denard - Cross Country

Sixth-grader Lily Denard, new as a harrier this season, has simply been stellar every day in practice and at every meet, placing as the TFS #3 racer each meet. She is purposeful, focused, and positive in everything she does. A wonderful teammate who encourages others and chooses to see what can be instead of any limitation, Lily pushes herself, unafraid of the discomfort inherent in running long distances on varied terrain under diverse weather, most of which is hot and humid. She represents TFS with GREAT character, pursuing excellence, yet maintaining perspective. She is the epitome of what we seek in a middle school role model athlete! -coach Scott Neal

Maddox English - Tennis

Maddox English has worked very hard this season to improve in many different aspects. He has improved everything from his effort in practice to his backhand. This week he gave his teammate great advice, he didn't give up, even when things weren't going his way, and he was a positive, smiling face! Maddox and his doubles partner Max also earned a victory in our semifinal match in the Southern Mountain League tournament. We are so excited to see what Maddox will do next year! -coach Anthony Cox
