Indians of the Week: October 16-21

TFS has named the Indians of the Week for the week of October 16-21. This week's selections are Olivia Henderson and Gavin Simmons for high school. MORE INDIANS OF THE WEEK

Olivia Henderson - Cross Country

Freshman Olivia Henderson expunged over 2 minutes off her previous 5k personal record at the Athens Academy Invite, placing #2 within TFS and 13th of 84 in the nine school race, running  22:56.40 on the two loop state-similar course. Olivia's team role is "Fun Coordinator," so she creates and leads team activities that are fun and enhance bonding (scavenger hunt, theme days, service, etc.). She thinks about teamness and its role in the season and then creates memorable moments. Her AA race was a touchstone, a monument to how one can improve when the mind is used for "what can be" instead of simply getting bogged down with the pain of running. -coach Scott Neal

Gavin Simmons - Cross Country

Freshman Gavin Simmons had his best race of the 2023 harrier season at the Athens Academy Invite, running 21:39.27 for the 5k state-similar course, moving up as the TFS #6 runner. Gavin is like a beeswax candle or like the energizer bunny; he keeps going and going and going.  He will be an ultra runner some day - he has the mindset, handles mileage well, and recovers quickly. The AA invite was a 50 second PR and 4:30 faster than his initial August 5k time trial. Moreover, it should be a monument race in which he can always look back and recognize it as an impetus to greater things. -coach Scott Neal
