Indians of the Month: October 2023

TFS has named the Indians of the Week for the month of October. This month's selections are Avery Keim and Timothy Beck for high school, and Mia Kerr and Avery Chatman for middle school. MORE INDIANS OF THE MONTH

Avery Keim - Cross Country

In her first  high school season, Avery Keim placed 7th at the Region 8AD1 Cross Country Championships to lead the Lady Indians to third place, qualifying to state in Carrollton next week. Her 22:48 5k time on the ACS course was 3:46 faster than she ran on the same course in August - quite an improvement! Avery races smart, under control in the beginning, steadily surging in the middle, and sprinting at the end. Her summer conditioning, goal setting and mental preparation, and focus is paying off individually and for her team! -coach Scott Neal

Timothy Beck - Cross Country

Junior Timothy Beck placed fourth in a near PR 18:37 at the Region 8AD1 XC Championships, earning the right as an individual to run at the State Championships in Carrollton next week, one of only a few TFS boys to do so. Timothy led his team to a fourth place finish, also qualifying to the pinnacle season finale as a team. A workhorse in all areas of life, Timothy is a "doer." He can be seen helping teammates in any manner, chatting up peers from other teams, repping GREAT to visitors, collecting full moon photos, and generally seizing each day like he were in John Keating's class at Welton. -coach Scott Neal

Mia Kerr - Cross Country

Seventh grader Mia Kerr had a stellar 2023 cross country season, finishing as the #1 TFS runner in eight of the 12 races or time trials. Her 3k time of 12:52.92 is #6 on the TFS MS Legacy List. A GREAT teammate who was both a role model as well as a learning sponge, Mia's upbeat attitude, strong work ethic, and improving fitness helped lead her team to a Tri State Runner-Up place as well as competitive finishes throughout the season. Simply stated, her consistency, quite fierceness, and unifying actions add tremendous value and significance to her team and to the cross country program. -coach Scott Neal

Avery Chatman - Cross Country

8th grader Avery Chatman came out to cross country late, but quickly became a strong competitor who improved significantly over the rest of the season, so much so that he won the Tri State Conference Championship, even though he had not defeated the next two harriers during the season. He then joined the JV squad at the Harrier Harvest and at the Region 8AD1 Championship, finishing with the high school team's #5 time. Avery's times finished as the #8 fastest 3k and #2 on the MS 3k and 5k TFS MS Legacy List. Avery learned valuable lessons in a short time that were eye opening and foundation for the future. -coach Scott Neal
