Mitchell's two goals leads MS girls to first win

The MS girls took their first win of the season in a 4-1 home win against Rabun Gap.

TFS was down 1-0 late in the first half when Nora Mitchell scored to equalize. The Lady Indians made necessary halftime adjustments and the rest took care of itself.

"At halftime, we evaluated how we could press higher and push players more into the attacking mindset," says coach Laura Higbie.

About 10 minutes into the second half, Mitchell scored her second unassisted goal for what proved to be the game-winner. The team turned on an offensive drive that lasted until the game's final minute.

A tenacious Erin Sweat made it 3-1, and Betsey Orr capped the scoring from the end line after an assist by Mitchell with about four minutes left.

The defense of Emily Savage, Karli Blackwell, Mylah McGugan, and Julianna Nail kept the Rabun Gap offense at bay. Goalie Elizabeth Hilson played all 60 minutes and had eight saves.

"All players received playing time today," adds Higbie. "Midfielders were feeding the ball forward during the entire game. I, Coach Agnor, and our parents were so proud of the team today. We had some bright moments in the game that really reflected our improvement. Super excited to take the momentum to Athens Academy Thursday."

The Lady Indians improve to 1-3 on the season.
