State Playoff Preview (Elite 8): Baseball

Riding the waves of history is fun! The Indians have been on fire since entering the state playoffs. The opening round at home featured a two-game sweep of Oglethorpe County by a combined 17-2. #4-ranked TFS was rewarded with its first-ever Sweet 16 trip. But it didn't stop there.

In the Sweet 16 at 1-seed Pepperell, a #4-ranked team as well, TFS lost a lead in the first game while dropping it 4-2. In the second game, the Indians refused to give in, storming back to take a 7-6, 11-inning victory to force a decisive game three. Tallulah came back late, then held on to win an exciting 6-4 final that featured the final out being made at the plate to preserve the win.

Danny Grant (.430, 2 HR, 30 RBI, 39 R, 28 SB) continues to have a historic season, and Ashton Roache (.291, 5 HR, 18 RBI), BJ Carver (.352, 1 HR, 13 RBI), Chris Waldron (.375, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 31 R, 26 SB) are a huge part of the offensive firepower. Cole Bonitatibus (7 wins, 1.19 ERA, 95 K), Chase Pollock (6 Wins, 1.23 ERA, 59 K), and Andrew Skvarka (3 Wins, 3.82 ERA, 34 K) make up a formidable rotation.

Back at home to host the first-ever Elite 8, Tallulah Falls is countered by #8-ranked Swainsboro, a 3-seed with a 19-11 overall record. The Tigers hail from Region 2-A DI, which features one of the state's top teams in Bleckley County. Swainsboro is only 4-8 on the road this season in true away games, but their offense is very lethal with 261 total runs (8.7/game). The pitching is solid for the Tigers as well, though they averaged 5.1/game allowed.
