Indians of the Week: September 9-14

TFS has named the Indians of the Week for the week of September 9-14. This week's selections are Delaney Johnson and Avery Chatman for the high school, and Lily Denard and Dylan Johnson/Fenn Nesmith for middle school. MORE INDIANS OF THE WEEK

Delaney Johnson - Cross Country

Sophomore Delaney Johnson contributes to the life of the cross country team in various ways, but namely through fulfilling and expanding the vision of being the "Light in the Mountains." She was the Team Leader for our 20th annual Cookies 'n Quotes XC Festival, guiding over 300 decorated bags with three cookies and three quotes lovingly placed in each. In addition, she baked the individual and team top three mega cookies, which certainly were a hit.  If that weren't enough, she quickly shifted focus to the inaugural Southern Traditions XC Jamboree, coordinating the culinary southern cuisine of peach cobblers and boiled peanuts, provided free with southern hospitality to all participants and spectators. Delaney distinctly understands that leadership is simply stepping up to the plate with one's talents and the determination to make others experiences memorable, just like the portions of the athletic mission "to host GREAT events, and to create a Season of Significance." Moreover, she ran a season best and a personal 5k record in two of three races in these two weeks. -coach Scott Neal

Avery Chatman - Cross Country

Freshman Avery Chatman has quickly risen to #3 on the team, running 18:53 at the North GA Invite to place in the top half of the varsity race. His improvement is noteworthy in time reduction, strategy, and mental fortitude. His present 5k time is #23 of the top 46 TFS runners who have raced 5000m on an XC course under 20:00. Avery is maturing as a harrier by challenging himself to think differently, to expand his performance vision, and to firmly grasp the proverbial arms of his varsity compadres. -coach Scott Neal

Lily Denard - Cross Country

Lily Denard is a 7th-grader who ran a 15:25.90 at the North Georgia XC Invitational placing 52nd out of 265 harriers. Over a minute and twenty seconds faster than her time at the same place last year! Lily is an encouraging and motivating leader for the TFS XC team for both boys and girls. -coach Ty Cox

Dylan Johnson/Fenn NeSmith - Tennis

Dylan Johnson and Fenn Nesmith, our 1-doubles team, worked to earn two wins this past week against Rabun County and Rabun Gap. These young men communicate well, encourage each other constantly, and maintain their composure in tough circumstances. They are both great teammates and lead by example. Fenn is always striving to get better at the net, while Dylan has been working to make his groundstrokes from the baseline a true weapon. These two young men make their team very proud and represent TFS in an outstanding manner. -coach Anthony Cox
