Season Recap: MS Softball
The excitement was justified for the Tallulah Falls MS softball team, as the Lady Indians fielded their first team in school history. While the majority of the team was comprised of sixth-graders, TFS made quick adjustments and showed improvement from game to game, even in the small things like relays, baserunning, and of course, hitting.
The Lady Indians opened the season August 19 against Towns County, and finished it on September 23 against the same team. With a condensed schedule, TFS went 1-7 on the season. The highlight of the season came at East Hall in the second game of a double-header right at the midway point of the season. TFS secured a gritty 9-7 win, their first in history.
The girls battled often, coming close to a win at Gainesville later. The lineup collected 39 runs across eight games, which comes out to nearly five per contest. The top three statistical hitters were Evie Purcell, Kayleigh McEntire, and Quinlan Flanders. Purcell fared extremely well at the leadoff spot. Every player on the team scored at least a run, led by Purcell and Ruby Sue Anderson's eight each. Flanders had seven runs scored.
Anderson was the team's go-to pitcher. She struck out 22 batters across eight games pitched, showing great improvement throughout. The young team now has a solid and experienced core, as nine of the 10 players are currently in sixth or seventh grade. Flanders is the sole eighth-grader moving up next season.
"I'm so proud of this young team for coming together and learning from adversity," says coach Jo Kimbrel. "The future is certainly bright for this program."
