MS Lady Indians win first match of season, boys edged out by White County

The MS golf teams got the season opened up the 2024 season on a beautiful sunny Monday afternoon at The Orchard against White County.

The girls completed their day a 34-over, beating White County by 25 strokes to pick up their first win of the season.

"The girls team leaned on its returning players from the 2023 squad," adds coach Jadie Hatcher.

Maeve Hatcher (5-over thru 7 holes) and Sadie Hensley (+9 thru 6 holes) paced the Lady Indians, while Handley James put up a personal-best 13-over (thru 7). Catherine Harris and Bella Sun teamed up in a best-ball format, and finished 7-over after three holes.

"From my vantage point, Emme Wagner and Quinlan Flanders had the most fun of any players in the field," adds Hatcher. "The two combined for a (+9 thru 3) in their first competitive match of their golf careers - very well done!"

Meanwhile, the Indians finished at 45-over, falling by 10 strokes to White County. Owen Earp (+6 thru 7) and Maddox English (+14 thru 7) led the efforts for the Indians. Earp was the low medalist. Newcomer Emmit Likens shot a 17-over in seven holes in his TFS debut. Jewels Kennedy and West Ridlhoover teamed up to lead the best ball matches (+8 thru (5) Holes). Josh Newell and Micah Smith played well, scoring a (+12 thru (5) Holes) to round out the scoring.

Coach Hatcher and Coach Franklin noted a tremendous improvement in the start of the 2024 season as compared to the start of the 2023 season.

"Both boys and girls teams are much more consistent from top to bottom this year," says Hatcher. "The growth and development of our Tallulah Falls golf program can clearly be seen in this first match of the season. We are extremely excited about the future of this program."
