Season Preview: MS Softball

With the softball program in its infancy, the first-year varsity team gets a lot of the headlines right now. However, the future is built from the ground up. That begins with the MS Lady Indians.

Head coach Jo Kimbrel takes over the team after leading the JV squad last year to a 7-8 record. She and assistant coach Tamara Griffis are excited to be leading the first middle school team, welcoming those who are interested in the game.

“We look forward to laying a foundation that can be built on in the future,” says Kimbrel.

While the roster is full of players with little to no real-game experience, one girl in particular will assert herself as a leader from day one.

“Ruby Sue Anderson is coming in with experience in the circle, and I can't wait to see her in action,” adds Kimbrel.

The roster consists of only one 8th-grader, Quinlan Flanders, while three 7th-graders and six 6th-graders make up the remainder.

The MS Lady Indians open their season on August 17 at Rabun County in a double header. The team’s first home game is slated for August 19 against Towns County. The full schedule includes 10 contests with a pair at home (Towns on August 19; Cherokee Bluff on August 27).
