Season Preview: MS Cross Country

The MS cross country teams are coming off Runner-Up finishes in the Tri-State Championships.

Last season, the girls featured such talents as Mia Kerr, Mary Kate Ball, and Lily Denard, anchoring the group. All of these girls return in 2024. Kerr was the team’s top runner last season, recording five top-10 finishes and in seven out of ten meets was the top runner for TFS. Ball was just as consistent, three times leading the Lady Indians and recording six top-10 finishes.

The Indians were paced often by Avery Chatman, who was the Tri-State Champion individually and finished runner-up in three other meets. He was the quickest runner for TFS in six of 10 races. He, along with Sam Belk, moved to the high school level. Sebastian York, Noah McClain, and Peter Greiving are a few of the key returning runners.

“Our goals for the year are to continue to improve as strong, efficient runners,” says coach Ty Cox. “To be intellectual athletes learning and applying strategies of racing to help gain an advantage. To leave practice and competitions everyday a little bit better than when we came in. We have a focus on having good sportsmanship, learning from disappointing performances, and celebrating personal and team success."

The season gets underway on August 17 at the Northeast Georgia Championships, while the official home-opener is slated for August 29 in the TFS Heroes Invitational.
