Lady Indians finish strong in Rocky Top Tournament with back-to-back wins

Tallulah Falls played in six matches in less than 24 hours, coming away with the Consolation Championship after going 2-4 overall.

The #10-ranked Lady Indians had a tough first four matches, losing 2-1 to Fairview (22-25, 25-21, 12-15), 2-0 against Clover (6-25, 12-25), and 2-1 each to West Ridge (31-29, 17-25, 12-15) and Marion (10-25, 25-13, 9-15). The girls were then placed in the Consolation Bracket, where they finished with back-to-back wins.

Shelby Whisnant and Julia Smith served well, and Laura Ruiz Rendon recorded some nice aces. Chesney Tanksley and Margalida Amengual Sanchez set well.

"We didn't quite wake up enough to pull the Saturday morning matches off," says coach Matt Heyl. "We got put in a consolation bracket with Shelby, Becca [Heyl], Margalida, and Lily coming alive with some aggressive attacking."

Ca'Rin Swinton was tough at the net, and Tanksley and Sanchez gave some great sets, spurred on by much-needed precision passing by Rendon, Julia Smith, and Heyl.

The Lady Indians defeated Monterey 25-20, 28-26 and South Gibson County 25-11, 25-21 to close out the tournament with wins.

TFS is now 14-14 overall on the season.
