Lady Indians make history with double header sweep

The wait is over as TFS varsity softball notched its first wins of the season! The Lady Indians have been making strides all season, and finally saw the fruit of their labor at King's Academy on Saturday. The girls won 15-3 in the opener, and took an extra-inning 15-13 win in the finale as well.

The day's results saw Tallulah Falls set numerous firsts and school single-game records. Most importantly though, the first-ever and second-ever win.

In the opener, the girls posted a record nine runs in the first inning. Abby McCoy had a 2-run single, and Rylee Vandiver and Callie Craver also had 2-run hits in the frame. Katie Anderson, who singled as the second hitter up, came up for a second time in the inning. She became the first TFS player to have two hits in the same inning, as she doubled in Payton McEntire and Craver for the 9-0 lead.

Craver gave up one run in the first but settled in nicely. In the fourth, the Lady Indians added six runs, capped by another 2-run single by Anderson and a McCoy run-scoring single. In total, the offense collected 12 hits and five stolen bases. Anderson and McCoy both had three hits, while the former had four RBI and the latter three. Every player in the lineup scored at least one run. Craver picked up the victory while striking out six and giving up two earned runs.

In the second game, the win came in dramatic fashion in a 15-13 slugfest. Again TFS got out to a quick start with a 5-run first. Vandiver had a 2-run single and McEntire singled one in as well. King's Academy got three back in the home half, and took the lead with three more in the second. They added to it with a four-run third to go up 10-5.

Tallulah Falls mounted its first-ever comeback win. It started with a single run in the fourth on the first-ever homer, an inside-the-parker by Anderson. Then the girls added two in the sixth to get within 10-8. The home team got one back to take an 11-8 lead into the final inning. Anderson made history with another TFS homerun, again an inside-the-parker that plated her and Alana Strachan. After a Juliana Roberts double, McCoy doubled her in to tie the game at 11 apiece.

Craver struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh, working around a couple of baserunners. That set the tone for extra innings. Strachan had an RBI go-ahead single to score Vandiver, and two more came home on a fielder's choice from Anderson. Roberts' single brought in Anderson for the 15-11 lead. Craver worked out of a jam in the home half, securing a wild 15-13 win. Craver struck out a mind-boggling 16 batters in the win. Anderson had two homers, five RBI, five runs, five stolen bases, and five hits in the second game - all single-game records.

The Lady Indians are now 2-9 overall and 2-6 in region play.
