TFS Plans for Success With Southern Association of Independent Schools Re-Accreditation Committee
Tallulah Falls School hosted the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) re-accreditation committee. They met with parents, students, alumni, faculty, and staff to formulate plans for the school’s success for the next five years.
According to SAIS, “Accreditation is a voluntary process of self-evaluation and continuous improvement that reflects compliance with required standards/indicators, involves a self-study, and includes a peer review by educators from other schools.”
Dr. Jack Talmadge from Episcopal School of Knoxville in Knoxville, TN, served as Chair, and Mr. Kevin Flinn from Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, NC, served as Assistant Chair. Team members included Director of Performing Arts Mr. Cary Brague from Mount Paran Christian School in Kennesaw, GA, Director of Strategic Initiatives Ms. Trish Cobourn from Spartanburg Day School in Spartanburg, SC, and Lower School Director Ms. Carolyn Ronco from Durham Academy in Durham, NC.
At the end of the visit, Talmadge shared closing remarks with faculty and staff. “It has been a delightful visit. The climate is so open and welcoming. You are all very real,” he said. “We are impressed by how faculty and staff interact with one another and the students. This is not a climate or culture built overnight; it is built over a long period of time.”
Talmadge commended President and Head of School Dr. Larry A. Peevy. “You have empowered your team. That leadership trickles down so they can do what is important for their teachers and, in turn, for the kids. This will serve you extremely well now and in the future,” he said. “I have seen what you have been able to do. You have transformed the school over the last 18 years.”
Peevy thanked the committee for all of their commendations and wonderful comments as they met with our faculty, staff, alumni, students and Board of Trustees. “A lot of people played a role in putting our self-study together. It has helped us tremendously as a school to make this a successful environment for our students,” he said. “You are reinforcing our plans for continued success and improvement. The re-accreditation visit allowed us to look at ourselves closely and evaluate how we can continue making enhancements for our future.”
The team explained that TFS has tremendous momentum and encouraged the school to “run with it – to continue to seek opportunities and build purpose.”
